Recently, Qualitell, a smart mosquito-killing home appliance brand, announced official strategic cooperation with health authorities across multiple African countries. Leveraging its self-developed solar-powered mosquito zappers, long-lasting electric swatters and other mosquito control products, the brand has launched community mosquito prevention programs to help reduce the transmission risk of malaria, dengue fever and other mosquito-borne infectious diseases, bringing China’s affordable mosquito control technology to the frontline of grassroots public health in Africa.

Mosquito-borne diseases have long posed a major challenge to public health in Africa. Data from the World Health Organization shows malaria is mainly transmitted through mosquito bites, with the vast majority of global malaria cases occurring in Africa. Conventional mosquito repellent and elimination solutions suffer from limitations including insufficient power supply, complicated maintenance and poor sustained effectiveness. Especially in remote villages without stable electricity, ordinary mosquito control devices cannot operate continuously — this serves as the core starting point of this cooperation.
Tailored to the conditions of rural Africa, including power shortages, high outdoor temperatures and heavy rainfall, Qualitell provides customized solar outdoor mosquito zappers and durable rechargeable electric mosquito swatters. The outdoor mosquito zapper is equipped with high-power photovoltaic panels to store energy during the day and automatically activate its mosquito trapping grid at night, requiring no external mains power. Its waterproof casing adapts to tropical rainy climates. The portable electric swatter features extended battery life for household indoor mosquito elimination. The full solution combines large-scale mosquito control in public spaces with individual household protection, covering community squares, schools, medical clinics, residential houses and other scenarios.
During project implementation, Qualitell’s team works alongside local government health departments to conduct hands-on training for grassroots staff on equipment installation and maintenance. Meanwhile, the team carries out health education for community residents on the prevention of mosquito-borne diseases, upgrading simple hardware supply into an integrated public health solution of “equipment + training + health education”.
Health officials from African partner authorities commented that the newly introduced mosquito control equipment addresses the difficulty of mosquito elimination in off-grid outdoor settings. It can continuously lower mosquito density in crowded areas such as schools and villages and will act as an important supplement to the grassroots epidemic prevention system. The partners plan to gradually expand pilot coverage and promote the solution to more villages and towns.
As an enterprise specializing in environmental disinfection product manufacturing, Qualitell keeps deepening its focus on mosquito prevention and control. Relying on strengths in hardware R&D and supply chain, its products serve domestic household markets and have entered mosquito-prone regions including Southeast Asia and Africa in recent years. This cooperation with African government health authorities marks a practice of Chinese small home appliance manufacturers participating in global public health governance, leveraging practical manufacturing technology to support worldwide infectious disease prevention and control.
